How do I change the admissions requirements associated with an existing degree program or credit-bearing certificate?

  1. The admissions change(s) to a degree program or certificate are reviewed by the faculty of the proposer’s department.
  2. Upon approval, the department will submit the program/certificate admissions change proposal to the college faculty for review. This is often done through a group of faculty organized through the dean’s office such as a faculty council or Educational Policy & Curriculum committee.
  3. After approval at the college level, the program/certificate admissions change then goes to the appropriate Senate academic council(s).
    1. Proposals regarding undergraduate degrees and certificates are reviewed by the Undergraduate Council (UC).
    2. Proposals regarding graduate degrees and certificates are reviewed by the Graduate Council (GC).
    3. Proposals regarding professional degrees in the professional health care colleges are reviewed by the Health Care Colleges Council (HCCC).
      1. Health care colleges have the option of sending program/certificate admissions change proposals to the HCCC, but are not required to do so.
    4. Proposals for law-related degrees are sent directly from the College of Law Faculty Council to the Senate Council Office.
  4. The academic council will send approved program proposals to the Senate Council office. Office personnel check that the program/certificate admissions change complies with the Senate Rules and is ready for the next step in the review process.
  5. SC staff will send the proposal to the Senate's Admissions and Academic Standards Committee (SAASC). The contact person for the proposal, as well as a college contact person, will be informed of the submission of the proposal to the SAASC. The SAASC chair or other members may ask the proposer questions about the proposal.
  6. When the SAASC is satisfied with the proposal, its committee chair will let SC staff know it is ready for review by the SC and Senate during regular meetings.
  7. SC staff will email the contact person(s) to schedule a date when the contact person can attend a SC meeting. (SC meets most Mondays during the academic year, usually from 3 – 5 pm in 103 Main Building. SC does not meet on the second Monday of the month, when the full Senate meets.) The SAASC chair will present the proposal to the SC and the contact person is there to answer any questions that the SAASC chair cannot answer. SC may approve the proposal as is or request revisions.
  8. When the SC approves the proposal, it will be scheduled for the agenda of the next monthly University Senate meeting. (The University Senate meets the second Monday of the month from 3 – 5 pm in the Athletics Association Auditorium of W. T. Young Library.) Like the SC meeting, the SAASC chair will present the proposal to the Senate and the contact person is there to answer any questions that the SAASC chair cannot answer. Senate may approve the proposal as is or request revisions.
  9. Upon Senate approval, SC office personnel will alert the University community (Registrar, all colleges, Undergraduate Education, etc.) and the changes will be implemented as of the effective date of the proposal.
